Arrival...

Costa Rica is every bit as beautiful as I remember it to be. Upon arriving in San Jose this afternoon, my newfound friends and I (there are 17 of us - a great group!) had quite the change from our nation´s capitol, where we shipped out in the wee hours of the morning. We came nervous and excited and we left... well, pretty much the same way, but slightly more relaxed knowing 16 others were sharing the same anxieties! Leaving DC, there were snow flurries in the air, but landing in CR, we stripped our outer layers to enjoy the sun and the warmth of the tropics. Our experiences in-country have been limited thus far to a little local exploration on our retreat site and some frisbee, followed by a Costa Rican welcome and dinner... But tomorrow is another day!

Many thanks to my Washington bodyguards - fun times at the zoo! It´s a shame the beavers were missing, but at least we saw our cousins the apes. And thanks for listening, J.

Gettin' Ready...

A flight away from the real world? Or an escape to start living it?

Less than a week before I'm off to Costa Rica for two and a quarter years and tons to do. My honed procrastination skills wouldn't have it any other way!

It's been a trying few weeks between travels, but it's wonderful to spend my last American moments with the family here in beautiful Florida. It makes me realize just how much I'll miss.

While I'm gone, I'll be posting my life in the jungles (or the beach, who knows where I'll end up!) as often as I can, but certain necessities may limit such entries.

So stay connected, and I'll paint you the picture of a Peace Corps Volunteer...
